The final Workshop in the network of APN Project “Climate
variability and human activities in relation to Northeast Asia
land-ocean interactions and their implications for coastal zone
management” (Head of the Project - A.V. Adrianov, RAS
corresponding member) will be held on May 24-26, 2006
by the Institute of Marine Biology FEB RAS with the assistance
of APN on Investigation of Global Changes. The aim of the
Workshop - discussion on preparation of a joint (Russia, China,
Korea) monograph preliminary entitled: GLOBAL CHANGE IN
NORTHEAST ASIA: CLIMATE VARIABILITY, LAND-OCEAN INTERACTIONS,
COASTAL ZONE MANAGEMENT. Reports of specialists from the
Institute of Marine Biology (IMB FEB RAS), Pacific Oceanological
Institute (POI FEB RAS), Pacific Institute of Geography (PIG FEB
RAS), Institute of Water and Ecological Problems (IWEP FEB RAS,
Khabarovsk), Hong Kong Baptist University (Hong Kong, PRC) and
Nanjin University (Nanjin, PRC) will be presented at the
Workshop.

Institute of Marine Biology FEB RAS with suppot of the
Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change (APN) will hold a
Training Course for Young Scientists:
Climate variability and human activities in
relation to Northeast Asian land-ocean interactions and their
implications for coastal zone management in Vladivostok,
Russia,
October 24-26, 2005.
It is a part of APN activity in the field of capacity buiding
and training workshops. Lectures will be delivered by experts in
climate change and variability/sea level rise, river
basins/coastal zone interactions, ecosystems, POPs; lecturers
are from China/Hong Kong, Republic of Korea and Russia as well
as from APN Secretariat.

In the context of the APN Project
Climate variability and human activities in
relation to Northeast Asian land-ocean interactions and their
implications for coastal zone management,
the Institute of Marine Biology FEB RAS together with the IGBP Russian National Committee and the Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research will held
the school for young scientist in Vladivostok, Russia,
October 24-26, 2005. The School languages
will be both Russian and English.
School Programme will be posted at our website in September.

| First Announcement According to the schedule of the APN
Project 2004-18-NMY Climate variability and human activities in
relation to Northeast Asian land-ocean interactions and their
implications for coastal zone management, the workshop under
same title will be held in Nanjing University, Nanjing, People’s
Republic of China, in December 3-6, 2004. The workshop will
include several sessions with invited speakers; other persons
wishing to participate can contact Dr. Konstantin A. Lutaenko
(lutaenko@mail.primorye.ru) or
Prof. Shu Gao
(shugao@nju.edu.cn). Invited participants should send
extended
abstracts by E-mail as attached file. Abstracts should not
exceed 6 pages and be written in English. The format and
printing of abstracts are as follows: the text should be printed
in MS Word, with 25 mm upper, lower, right and left margins,
Times New Roman 12 font, single interval between lines;
abstracts should start with a title, followed by author’s full
name (for example, Svetlana P. Ivanova or John A. Brown) and the
affiliation (for example, Institute of Biology RAS, Moscow
100100, Russia). References and no more that 3 figures can be
provided. E-mail acknowledgement of the abstracts receipt will
be sent within 10-15 days. Abstracts must be send to Dr.
Konstantin A. Lutaenko before October 20, 2004. List of
participants will be posted at our website in October. |

Russian team of the project had a working meeting in order to
discuss project progress and future work (before Nanjing
meeting). We agreed that this year work in Russian sector would
be devoted to collecting, analysis and synthesis of existing
data on the Amur, Razdolnaya, and Tumen Rivers basins and
nearshore areas, but not fieldworks.
