On September, 27, 2024, the A.V. Zhirmunsky Scientific Center of Marine Biology (NSCMB) FEB RAS held a meeting with representatives of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Vladivostok: Mr. Miao Yuan, the Consul for Science and Technology, and Mr. Wang Dajun, the Consul for Education. On the Russian side, the meeting with the Consulate General’s delegation was attended by the Director Dr. I.Yu. Dolmatov, the Deputy Director for International Cooperation Dr. K.A. Lutaenko, Deputy Directors for Science Dr. A.V. Boroda, Dr. V.V. Mordukhovich, Dr. T.Yu. Orlova, and a leading specialist of the International Cooperation Department Mrs. A.I. Grishina.
Dr. Dolmatov warmly welcomed the guests on behalf of the NSCMB FEB RAS and expressed gratitude for their interest in our research Center.
Mr. Miao Yuan noted the high level of interstate relations between our countries. In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Miao Yuan confirmed the China’s desire to promote the concept of open, honest, fair, and non-discriminatory international cooperations in science and technology and briefly informed about the development of science and technology in China.
Dr. Lutaenko, in his first words, thanked the Consulate General for the great support and then presented a report about the history, goals, objectives, structure, and achievements of the NSCMB FEB RAS, with special emphasis on the successful history of Russian–Chinese collaboration and cooperations with a number of scientific institutions of the People’s Republic of China.
Dr. Mordukhovich also spoke about common interests in deep-see research. Dr. Orlova shared with the audience the experience of cooperation with Chinese colleagues in studying harmful algal blooms.
Mr. Wang Dajun, the Consul for Education, pointed out that science and education are inseparable components, and only joint efforts can produce high results. During the meeting, the parties discussed various issues of cooperation to be addressed in this field and the possible future participation of specialists from the Primorsky Aquarium NSCMB FEB RAS who possess significant experience in education.
All participants expressed confidence in the future fruitful cooperation and the successful development of the Russian–Chinese relations. At the end of the meeting, they agreed to consult and interact on issues of mutual interest. Both sides also stressed the importance of personal communication between Russian and Chinese scientists, as they play a key role in strengthening scientific and technological ties.
