Thallus bushy, soft, feather-like, 5–15 cm high, bright or dark green to olive color. Branching repeatedly pinnate, in one plane. The main axe and the branches at the base are naked, in the upper part covered with oppositely arranged branches (pinnulae), shortening to the apex, and giving to the plant a pyramidal appearance. Terminal branches slight narrowed to apex, constricted at the base. The main axe to 1.5 mm wide, pinnulae 70–150(–250) μm diam., constricted at base with round apices. Rhizoids fibrous, tightly interwoven. Growing in intertidal and upper subtidal, on stony, rocky and muddy-sandy bottom with stones, in protected and semi-protected or open shores.

Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Oceans. Common in countries of the Asia-Pacific Region: China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand.
