Codium tenue

Thallus very soft, spongy, bushy, slender, flexible, 4–8 cm high, light green to dark green. Branching repeatedly irregularly dichotomous with a distance 2-3 cm between the divisions. Branches cylindrical, 2-3 mm in diam., tapering to apices. Utricles obovate, club-shaped, 300–650(-700) mm high, 120-400 mm diam. with blunt apices and tapering towards the base. Gametangia ovoid or elliptic, 65-100×175-270 mm. Attachment by discoid spongy holdfast. Growing on hard substrate in the low intertidal and upper subtidal zones, in semi-protected and open shores.
