Dictyopteris pacifica

Thalli flat, smooth, in clusters of 5–10 plants, 20–45(–80) cm high, yellowish-brown with thin midrib when young and dark brown with rudimentary midrib at the lower part when adult. Blades cuneate at base, irregularly bifurcated, divided into several lobes (that gives palmate view), with round axils, without zonation, a prominent midrib and veins. Margins of the blades entire or with sparse short spines. Hairs develop in depressed pits and scattered on the thallus in linear manner. Sporangia develop from the superficial cortical cells on both surfaces of thalli in clusters around hair pits. Attachment by holdfast composed of multicellular filamentous rhizoids. Growing on the lower intertidal rocks to subtidal.
