Saundersella simplex

Thallus simple, string-like, cylindrical, soft, mucilaginous, unbranched, epiphytic, 3-15(-20) cm long, 2-5 mm diam., shortly stipitate, golden-brown or olive-brown. Hairs and unangia develop at the base of assimilating filaments. Unangia oval, ~50×30 mm. Assimilating filaments of 5-7 cells (to 70 mm high) with large terminal cell. Medulla composed of longitudinally loosely arranged long-celled filaments, to 150 mm long, 40 mm diam. Attachment by small disk-like holdfast. Growing epiphytically, in low intertidal to subtidal, in open and semiprotected shores.
