Sargassum hemiphyllum

Thallus bushy, coarse, 0.5–2 m high, yellow brown. Main axis short cylindrical, giving rise to several primary axes. Primary axes, slightly compressed, smooth bearing alternate lateral branches. Phylloids short, asymmetric, without midrib. Margins coarsely toothed on outward side and entire on inward one. Vesicles with a cluster of receptacles (cylindrical, simple) develop on branchlets in axils of phylloids. In the lower parts of thalli vesicles obovate, puriform with rounded apices, in the upper part fusiform, elliptical, mucronated at the top or bearing leaflet. Cryptostomata present. Attachment by branched rhizoids.
