Ceramium kondoi

Thalli filamentous, dark red, 10–30 cm high, soft, slightly cartilaginous, bushy, forming entangled masses. Branching di-, tri-, tetrachotomously, alternate, with or without adventitive branchlets. Main axes and branches to 2 mm diam., consisting of uniseriate barrel-shaped cells, densely corticated throughout. Branches and branchlets tapering towards apices. Branches covered with lateral branchlets. Apices of branches forcipated, or straight. Sporangia spherical, tetrahedrally, or cruciately divided, 45–60 μm diam, imbedded in cortex, in rows or scattered over the thallus. Cystocarps lateral, sessile, on branches and branchlets, 60–100×140–600 μm, with 4–5 involucral branchlets. Growing on rocky, stony and silt-sandy with pebbles substrate, epiphytic on macroalgae, in low intertidal, upper subtidal, in sheltered, moderate exposed and exposed to wave action.
