Sparlingia pertusa

Thallus blade-like, thin-membranous, with wavy margins (sometimes proliferating), 20-70(-100) cm high, 25-50 cm wide, pinkish-red or violet carmine, fading to yellowish color with age. Blades entire when young, becoming with age digitipartite, split into lobes and conspicuously perforated; cuneate at the base with terete stipe (often branched). The stipe with spur-like outgrowth. Cystocarps prominent, to 1.2 mm across, scattered over thalli. Attachment by small disc-like holdfast. Growing in the subtidal zone on sandy, muddy-sandy bottom with stones and shells in semi-protected and exposed coasts.
