The A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology, Far Eastern Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (NSCMB FEB RAS), is planning to hold the 4th Mariculture School for Young Scientists “Modern Mariculture: Biological, Biochemical, and Molecular Genetics Approaches” at the Vostok marine biological station (MBS Vostok), September 8–11, 2024.
The School is organized within the framework of the Russian Science Foundation project No. 21-74-30004. Scientists younger than 35 (inclusive) are welcomed to the School.
Leading researchers from various scientific organizations in Russia and China will take part at the event as lecturers. A professor from Dalian Ocean University (DOU) was invited as a lecturer, and his colleague from DOU and a representative from the China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation as guests at the event.
The School will consider such modern problems as marine invertebrate cultivation and the use of novel methods for studying biological objects aimed to create a scientific basis for mariculture and improve animal farming technologies.
Accommodation and transfer to the MBS Vostok and back are free of charge. No registration fee is required. The MBS Vostok will provide a dining room during the School period.
Applications are accepted until August 1, 2024. Please, send applications with your full name, date of birth, place of work (study), and e-mail to Daria Sergeevna Borisova This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The International Cooperation Department of the NSCMB FEB RAS has summed up the results of cooperation with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). As we remember, the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin paid a state visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on June 19–20, 2024. The year of this visit marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Basic Principles of Friendly Relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Russian Federation (of June 16, 1994). In a warm atmosphere, the sides held an in-depth exchange of views on a wide range of topical issues and areas of Russian–Vietnamese relations, including scientific, technological and humanitarian ones.
On June 20–21, 2024, the Soonchunhyang University, Asan, Republic of Korea, hosted an annual conference of the Malacological Society of Korea (MSK) and an anniversary event to celebrate 40 years of the Society
For Russian Far Eastern malacologists, maintaining contacts with the MSK and Korean malacologists is an important part of regional scientific relations.
Igor Yu. Dolmatov, the NSCMB FEB RAS Director, Corresponding Member of RAS, approved the annual report of the International Cooperation Department (ICD), jointly prepared with the ICD of the scientific and educational center "Primorsky Aquarium", a branch of the NSCMB FEB RAS.
According to this report, in 2023, the Center’s international relationships were supported based on 43 active agreements with nine countries (People's Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Japan, United States of America, Federal Republic of Germany, Belgium, Republic of India and Philippines). Three international projects and programs (with Chinese and Vietnamese scientists) were also worked on.
In April 2023 the NSCMB FEB RAS International cooperation department initiated correspondence with Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sanya (IDSSE CAS). A fruitful online meeting was held in September 2023, at which the issues of the deep-sea research and possibilities for collaborative research on the biodiversity of the Pacific Northwest were discussed. As a result, on December 22, 2023, the Memorandum of Understanding and the Agreement on joint marine expeditions between IDSSE CAS and NSCMB FEB RAS were signed.
During the online meeting, an agreement was reached on a joint cruise planned for summer 2024. At this time, the negotiations have an active status, and the upcoming cruise details are being discussed. In this regard, in March 2024 Igor Yu. Dolmatov, the NSCMB FEB RAS Director, Corresponding Member of RAS, Dr. Vladimir V. Mordukhovich, the Deputy Director for Science, and Dr. Konstantin A. Lutaenko, the Deputy Director for International Cooperation, are planning to make an official visit to Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hainan Island, Sanya, China.
The joint cruise will become an important step for both sides in the long-term and mutually beneficial scientific cooperation, and the Memorandum and Agreement signing is just the beginning of a new stage in the relationship between NSCMB FEB RAS and IDSSE CAS.
A.V.
